Copy 25 Ghibli-style AI prompts for portraits, couples, pets, food, rooms, landscapes and channel art, plus how to keep a face recognizable and animate the result into a Short.
You upload a selfie, type "Studio Ghibli style" and get back something that is technically anime but feels wrong: shiny plastic skin, a neon sky, eyes the size of saucers, and a background that looks like a phone wallpaper instead of a painting. The famous hand-painted look is made of very specific ingredients, and a one-line prompt asks for none of them.
This guide gives you 25 copy-and-paste Ghibli-style AI prompts for 2026, grouped into portraits and selfies, couples and families, pets, food and cozy kitchens, rooms and towns, landscapes and skies, and YouTube channel art and Shorts scenes. Every prompt spells out the pieces that make the look work: watercolor-style backgrounds, soft cel shading on the characters, tall cumulus clouds, warm light and lived-in clutter. You will also learn how to keep a face recognizable when you convert a real photo, how to turn a finished still into a Short, and where the line sits between a Ghibli-inspired style and copying a studio's characters.
The style has been popular since late March 2025, when OpenAI added native image generation to GPT-4o in ChatGPT and social feeds filled with photos redrawn in a Ghibli-like look. The interest did not go away, and every current image model can now do a decent version of it. You can run every prompt below in Miraflow's AI Image Generator, which supports both text-to-image and image-to-image.
TL;DR: How to Get a Real Ghibli-Inspired Look
- Describe the painting, not just the name. Ask for hand-painted watercolor backgrounds, soft cel-shaded characters with simple flat color areas, thin warm outlines and gentle natural proportions.
- Always include a sky. Big, soft-edged cumulus clouds against a clear blue are the single biggest signal of the look.
- Light the scene with a warm, specific source: late afternoon sun through leaves, a kitchen window, a paper lantern. Avoid neon and glossy highlights.
- Add lived-in clutter: stacked books, patched curtains, a kettle, drying laundry, a bicycle against a wall. Empty rooms read as digital, crowded ones read as painted.
- For photos, use image-to-image and name three or four real features to keep (hair shape, glasses, freckles, jaw), so the person stays recognizable.
- Do not ask for named characters, studio logos or film titles. Describe an original scene in the style instead.
- Finish by animating your favorite stills as Shorts with Miraflow Text2Shorts.
What Actually Makes the Ghibli Look (and What Prompts Usually Miss)
When people say "Ghibli style" they usually mean a handful of concrete choices that a good prompt can reproduce. Understanding them lets you write better prompts than any copy-and-paste list, including this one.
Watercolor-style backgrounds with soft edges
Ghibli films are known for richly painted backgrounds, and the studio's background artists have long worked in opaque water-based paint. That gives the sky, grass and walls soft, slightly mottled color transitions and visible brush direction, instead of the clean digital gradients most AI models default to. In a prompt, the phrases that help are "hand-painted watercolor background", "visible soft brush texture", "gentle paper grain" and "painterly gradients in the sky". Ask for the background to look more detailed and slightly softer than the characters, because in the real look the background is the star.
Soft cel shading on the characters
The characters sit on top of those backgrounds like traditional animation cels: simple flat color areas, one soft shadow tone and a thin, slightly warm outline instead of a hard black one. If you leave this out, models drift toward glossy 3D skin with rim lights. Useful phrases are "soft cel shading with a single gentle shadow tone", "thin warm brown outlines", "matte skin with no specular highlights" and "simple dot eyes with small natural highlights".
Cumulus skies
The towering white cumulus cloud against a deep clear blue is the signature image of the style. Tell the model the clouds are "tall, rounded cumulus clouds with soft shaded undersides in pale lavender and gray, bright white tops, deep cerulean sky fading lighter toward the horizon". Without a sky instruction, you often get a flat pastel gradient.
Warm light and a calm palette
The palette leans on natural greens, warm creams, faded blues and earthy browns, with light that feels like a specific time of day. Name the source and the hour. "Warm late afternoon sun filtering through leaves and casting dappled green shadows" produces a different, more convincing result than "beautiful lighting".
Lived-in detail and everyday objects
Ghibli-inspired scenes treat ordinary life as worth looking at: a kettle on a stove, a stack of mismatched plates, a bicycle with a basket, laundry on a line. This is the cheapest upgrade you can make. Add three or four specific props to every prompt and the image immediately feels hand-composed instead of generated.
Quiet, unhurried composition
The style favors wide establishing shots, small figures in big landscapes and moments of stillness over dramatic action poses. Ask for "calm composition", "figure small in the frame" or "a quiet moment" rather than "epic" or "dynamic". The exceptions are close portraits, which work best at a slight three-quarter angle with a soft background.
1) Ghibli-Style Portraits and Selfies
Portraits are where most people start, and where a recognizable face matters most. These four prompts work as text-to-image scenes, and each also works as an image-to-image instruction if you upload a photo and add the line "keep the person's face, hair and glasses recognizable".
1. Train Window Selfie
A quiet commuter moment: a person leaning against a train window with green countryside rolling past. It converts a regular selfie into a scene with a story.
Hand-painted Ghibli-inspired anime illustration of a young woman with a short dark bob and round glasses sitting by an open train window, resting her chin on her folded arm and looking out at rolling green rice fields and a distant village, tall white cumulus clouds in a deep blue sky, warm late afternoon sunlight lighting one side of her face, soft cel shading with a single gentle shadow tone and thin warm brown outlines, watercolor-style background with visible brush texture and gentle paper grain, worn teal train seat with a faded pattern, a paper bento box and a thermos on the small table, a little wind lifting a curtain, calm quiet mood, medium shot at a slight three-quarter angle, no glossy plastic skin, no neon colors, no text, no logos.

2. Hilltop Wind Portrait
A classic outdoor portrait with wind in hair and clothes, ideal for an Instagram profile photo or a creator avatar.
Hand-painted Ghibli-inspired anime portrait of a young man with wavy brown hair and light stubble standing on a grassy hilltop in a strong breeze, his hair and a loose linen shirt blowing sideways, a battered bicycle lying in the tall grass beside him, enormous rounded cumulus clouds with lavender shaded undersides across a bright blue sky, warm golden sun from the left casting a soft rim of light along his cheek, watercolor-style painterly background with soft layered green hills, matte cel-shaded skin with a single soft shadow tone, simple expressive eyes with small natural highlights, thin warm outlines, peaceful and slightly nostalgic mood, wide medium shot, no glossy highlights, no extra fingers, no text or logos.
3. Close-Up Avatar With a Painted Garden
A tighter crop for profile pictures, where the face and a few personal details carry the whole image.
Hand-painted Ghibli-inspired anime close-up portrait of a smiling woman in her thirties with freckles, a gap-toothed smile and curly auburn hair tied up with a yellow scarf, standing in a small kitchen garden with sunflowers and tomato vines behind her, soft morning light from the right, shallow painterly focus with the garden dissolving into soft watercolor blooms of green and yellow, soft cel shading with thin warm outlines, matte skin, gentle natural eyes with a subtle highlight, a few drifting dandelion seeds, square composition with her face centered, no airbrushed gloss, no oversized eyes, no text.
4. Grandfather in the Greenhouse
Older faces are where the style shines, because wrinkles and warm expressions read beautifully in simple line work.
Hand-painted Ghibli-inspired anime illustration of an elderly man with white hair, bushy eyebrows and a kind weathered face watering seedlings in a glass-roofed greenhouse, wearing a faded green apron and rolled sleeves, shafts of warm afternoon light slanting through foggy glass panels, rows of clay pots, hanging ferns, a battered watering can and a radio on a shelf, watercolor-style background with soft mottled washes of green and amber, soft cel shading with thin warm outlines, tender calm mood, medium shot, no glossy skin, no text, no logos.
2) Couples, Friends and Family Scenes
Group scenes work best when you give every person a distinct feature, otherwise the model blends them into near-identical characters. For more couple-specific ideas, see our AI couple selfie prompt pack.
5. Couple Picnic Under a Big Tree
A date-night or anniversary image that works equally well from a real couple photo.
Hand-painted Ghibli-inspired anime illustration of a couple having a picnic under a huge old camphor tree, a tall man with glasses and a short beard pouring tea while a woman with long black hair in a loose braid laughs and holds a sandwich, a patched gingham blanket covered with rice balls, sliced fruit, a wicker basket and a small thermos, dappled warm sunlight through leaves, rolling green meadow behind them and tall rounded cumulus clouds in a bright blue sky, watercolor-style background with soft brush texture, soft cel-shaded characters with thin warm outlines, gentle romantic mood, wide shot with both people in the lower third, no glossy skin, no text, no logos.

6. Family on the Porch at Dusk
A warm evening scene for family cards and anniversary photos.
Hand-painted Ghibli-inspired anime illustration of a family of four sitting on a wooden porch at dusk, a mother with short silver-streaked hair shelling peas, a father in a flannel shirt strumming a ukulele, a teenage daughter with braces reading a paperback and a small boy with a gap in his teeth chasing fireflies in the yard, a paper lantern glowing orange over the doorway, laundry on a line, a pot of tea and sliced watermelon on a low table, sky fading from peach to deep teal with a few cumulus clouds catching the last pink light, watercolor-style background, soft cel shading, thin warm outlines, cozy nostalgic mood, wide shot, no neon, no text, no logos.
7. Friends at the Rural Bus Stop
Perfect for a group photo conversion: four friends and a single moment.
Hand-painted Ghibli-inspired anime illustration of four friends waiting at a rural bus stop on a summer afternoon, one tall boy with curly hair carrying a guitar case, a girl with a bright red backpack and sunglasses on her head, a boy with a buzz cut eating a popsicle and a girl in a wheelchair with a sketchbook on her lap, a small wooden shelter with a faded timetable, wildflowers along a narrow country road, rice paddies and power lines stretching toward distant blue mountains, enormous cumulus clouds, hard-edged warm sunlight with soft painted shadows, watercolor-style background with visible brush texture, soft cel-shaded characters with thin outlines, relaxed nostalgic mood, wide shot, no glossy skin, no text, no logos.
3) Ghibli-Style Pet Portraits
Pet prompts perform well because owners know their pet's markings by heart. Always name the coat color, patches and ear shape in the prompt, and in image-to-image, repeat them. You can also explore the funnier side of pet transformations in our pet-to-human transformation prompts.
8. Dog on the Porch Steps
A golden afternoon scene that works for almost any dog breed once you swap the coat description.
Hand-painted Ghibli-inspired anime illustration of a fluffy corgi with a white chest, orange and white coat and one folded ear sitting on the wooden steps of a country porch, tongue slightly out and looking up at the viewer with warm round eyes, a worn leather leash and a pair of muddy rubber boots beside him, potted geraniums, a faded blue door and a hanging wind chime, warm late afternoon sunlight with soft dappled shadows, tall cumulus clouds in the blue sky above a green hillside, watercolor-style painterly background with visible brush texture, soft cel shading with thin warm outlines on the fur, calm happy mood, medium shot at the dog's eye level, no glossy highlights, no text, no logos.

9. Cat on a Sunny Windowsill
A sleepy cozy-room image that suits a pet's profile picture or a phone wallpaper.
Hand-painted Ghibli-inspired anime illustration of a gray tabby cat with white paws curled up on a wide wooden windowsill, eyes half closed in the sun, a sprig of lavender in a jam jar, a stack of old paperbacks, a ceramic teacup with steam and a knitted blanket beside her, the open window showing a quiet street of tiled rooftops and a tall cumulus cloud, warm morning light making the fur glow at the edges, watercolor-style background with soft textured washes, soft cel shading with a single shadow tone and thin warm outlines, gentle sleepy mood, close medium shot, no glossy fur, no text, no logos.
10. Pet and Owner Walking Home
A story image that includes both owner and pet, ideal for converting a real walk photo.
Hand-painted Ghibli-inspired anime illustration of a girl in a yellow raincoat and rubber boots walking a small black and white dog along a quiet country lane after a rain shower, puddles reflecting a clearing sky, the dog trotting ahead with its tail up, wet green hedgerows and a stone wall, a distant farmhouse with smoke from its chimney, tall cumulus clouds breaking apart with soft sun rays, watercolor-style background with soft blended washes, soft cel shading with thin warm outlines, fresh and peaceful mood, wide shot with both figures small in the frame, no neon, no text, no logos.
11. Rabbit in the Vegetable Garden
For small pets and backyard animals, a macro-scale scene with tall plants feels magical.
Hand-painted Ghibli-inspired anime illustration of a fluffy gray and white lop-eared rabbit nibbling a carrot leaf in a lush vegetable garden, giant cabbage leaves, tomato vines and sunflowers towering over it, dew drops on the leaves, a small watering can and wooden garden stakes with twine, warm early morning sun glowing through the leaves with soft green shadows, a patch of blue sky and a single white cumulus cloud above the fence, watercolor-style background with soft mottled greens, soft cel shading and thin warm outlines on the fur, gentle quiet mood, low camera angle at the rabbit's level, no glossy fur, no text, no logos.
4) Food, Cafes and Cozy Kitchens
Food scenes are a signature of the style: simple dishes painted with obvious affection, steam rising, and the kitchen around them full of life. The trick is to describe the food specifically, with colors, textures and steam, rather than just naming it. For realistic food photography instead, see our AI food photography prompts.
12. Ramen Counter at Night
A late-night noodle bar, with a cook behind the counter and rain outside.
Hand-painted Ghibli-inspired anime illustration of a tiny ramen counter at night, a middle-aged cook with a white headband and rolled sleeves ladling broth into a steaming bowl topped with a soft egg, sliced pork, green onions and a pink and white fish cake, a young woman in a denim jacket eating happily at the counter, wooden stools, hanging paper lanterns with a warm orange glow, shelves crowded with bowls and jars, a rain-streaked window showing blurred blue streetlights, thick rising steam painted in soft white strokes, watercolor-style background with warm amber and deep teal washes, soft cel shading with thin warm outlines, cozy lived-in mood, medium wide shot, no glossy food, no readable signs, no logos.

15. A Busy Family Kitchen at Sunset
A bustling scene for the "lived-in clutter" look, ideal for converting a photo of your own kitchen.
Hand-painted Ghibli-inspired anime illustration of a crowded family kitchen at sunset, a father in an apron stirring a big pot on an old gas stove, a daughter chopping green onions on a worn wooden board, a grandmother setting out chopsticks, a ginger cat sitting on the counter next to a basket of vegetables, mismatched plates stacked on open shelves, hanging pans and dried chilies, a calendar and a child's drawings on the wall, an open window with golden sunset light and a pink-lit cumulus cloud outside, watercolor-style background with warm orange and green washes, soft cel shading with thin warm outlines, loving noisy cozy mood, medium wide shot, no glossy surfaces, no readable text, no logos.
5) Rooms, Towns and Cityscapes
Interior and street scenes are where the "lived-in clutter" rule pays off. If you want to turn your actual room into a painted version, upload the photo and include the line "keep the layout and main furniture the same". For realistic interior visuals, our interior design prompts cover the photographic side.
16. Rainy Bedroom Study Nook
A calm room scene that works as a lofi-style wallpaper or a Shorts background.

A nostalgic transit scene that gives you a strong, cinematic wide frame.
Hand-painted Ghibli-inspired anime illustration of a tiny countryside train station platform at golden hour, a girl in a school uniform with a leather satchel waiting beside a wooden bench and a vending machine, an old green two-car train arriving in the distance, power lines crossing a sky of peach and blue with towering cumulus clouds, tall grass and wildflowers growing along the tracks, a stationmaster in a cap sweeping the platform, watercolor-style background with soft layered washes, soft cel shading with thin warm outlines, wistful quiet mood, wide shot with lots of sky, no glossy surfaces, no readable text, no logos.
6) Landscapes and Skies
Landscapes are the most forgiving category, because there is no face to get wrong, and they show the painted-background quality at its best. Autumn fans can also combine these prompts with ideas from our AI fall aesthetic photo prompts.
19. Cumulus Meadow With a Windmill
The definitive big-sky image: a field, a windmill and clouds that take up half the frame.

7) YouTube Channel Art, Thumbnails and Shorts Scenes
Ghibli-inspired visuals are popular with cozy, lofi, study, gaming and storytelling channels because the look signals calm and warmth. Make sure the channel art, thumbnail and Shorts all share one style, as covered in our guides to YouTube channel banner art prompts and thumbnails that stop the scroll.
22. Cozy Creator Desk Banner
A wide banner for a lofi, study or cozy gaming channel, with safe space in the middle for the channel name added later.

23. Thumbnail With a Surprised Face and a Painted World
A thumbnail needs a big readable face and one clear subject, even in a soft style.
Hand-painted Ghibli-inspired anime illustration for a YouTube thumbnail, a close-up of a young man with short black hair and a surprised open-mouthed smile holding a glowing paper lantern, a wide open countryside behind him with tall cumulus clouds and a winding road, strong warm backlight, slightly more saturated blue sky for contrast, large simple shapes with plenty of empty space on the right for a title, soft cel shading with thin warm outlines, watercolor-style background, bright inviting mood, wide 16:9 composition, no glossy skin, no text, no logos.
24. Vertical Shorts Scene: Bicycle on a Country Lane
A 9:16 opening frame that is ready to animate: one figure, one motion, one clear background.
Hand-painted Ghibli-inspired anime illustration in vertical 9:16 format, a girl with a ponytail and a straw hat riding a bicycle with a wicker basket down a narrow country lane lined with tall grass, her scarf and hair blowing behind her, a tall cumulus cloud tower and a deep blue sky filling the top half of the frame, rice fields and telephone poles receding into the distance, strong warm sun, soft painted shadows, watercolor-style background with visible brush texture, soft cel shading with thin warm outlines, joyful carefree mood, camera slightly low, composition with the subject in the lower center, no glossy highlights, no text, no logos.

How to Keep a Face Recognizable When You Convert a Real Photo
Anime stylization removes detail, so a face survives only if you tell the model which details to preserve. These are the moves that matter in image-to-image.
- Start with a good source photo. Use a sharp, front-facing or slight three-quarter photo with even light and nothing covering the face. Sunglasses, heavy filters and strong shadows give the model nothing to hold onto.
- Name three or four anchor features. Write them as plain facts: "round glasses, short dark bob, a mole under the left eye, strong straight eyebrows". Hair shape, glasses, freckles, beard, jaw shape and a distinctive smile do the most work.
- Keep the proportions realistic. Add "natural proportions, small simple eyes, no oversized anime eyes" so the eye spacing and nose width stay close to the original. Large eyes are the fastest way to lose likeness.
- Describe the pose or keep it. "Keep the same pose, head angle and expression as the photo" prevents the model from redrawing the face in a generic tilt.
- Change the style and the setting, not the person. Ask for the Ghibli look and a new background, but keep clothing color and hairstyle unless you want them changed.
- Use inpainting for repairs. If everything is good except one feature, such as glasses that disappeared, mask that area and ask only for that fix. See our family look-alike prompts for more on keeping real faces consistent.
- Generate several versions and pick the best. Likeness varies from run to run, so make four versions and choose the closest instead of tweaking one prompt endlessly.
A worked example: for a selfie of a person with curly red hair, freckles and square glasses, a weak prompt says "turn this photo into Ghibli style". A strong one says "Hand-painted Ghibli-inspired anime portrait of this person, keep the curly red hair, freckles and square glasses, natural proportions, same head angle and smile, soft cel shading with thin warm outlines, hand-painted watercolor background of a sunlit cafe window". The second keeps the details that make the person recognizable and gives the model a background to paint, so it does not spend its effort inventing the face.
If you want a bolder, rounder look instead, compare these results with our Pixar-style portrait prompts, which trade painted softness for 3D depth.
How to Turn a Ghibli Still Into a Short
A finished still makes a good opening frame, and a few small steps turn it into a vertical video.
- Choose a still with room to move. Images with a clear foreground figure, a layered background and an obvious source of motion, such as clouds, grass, steam or curtains, animate best. Prompt 24, the cyclist, is built for it.
- Write the motion in plain words. For a cinematic clip, describe only the movement: "slow camera push forward, grass swaying in the wind, clouds drifting, her scarf fluttering". Keep it to one or two motions so the painted look does not break.
- Use Text2Shorts for a full story. In Miraflow Text2Shorts, enter a topic, choose an animation style, edit the generated script and scene prompts, paste the Ghibli-style wording from this guide into the visual prompts so every scene shares the same look, pick a voice and generate the Short.
- Use the cinematic generator for a single hero clip. For a single polished scene, such as a drifting cumulus sky over the meadow, the cinematic AI video generator is a better fit than a multi-scene Short.
- Add calm music. Soft piano or acoustic guitar pairs well with the style, and you can generate it with Miraflow's AI music generator.
Creators who want more ideas for hands-off channels can read our guide to faceless YouTube channels with AI, and the Shorts thumbnail prompts cover the cover-frame side.
Style, Copyright and Ethics: What Is Fair Game
This is a factual overview, not legal advice, and rules differ by country and platform.
The trend and the reaction. OpenAI announced native image generation in GPT-4o on March 25, 2025, and Ghibli-style images spread widely in the following days. The viral moment also revived criticism: Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki had been quoted years earlier, in a documentary clip about an experimental AI animation, calling it an insult to life itself, and that remark resurfaced during the trend. Reporting differs on the exact context of that clip, so treat it as a statement about his view of AI-generated animation and not as a ruling on any particular tool.
Style versus specific works. A general look, such as soft watercolor backgrounds and cumulus skies, is a visual style. Specific characters, named creatures, film frames, logos and the studio's name are the parts that belong to the rights holder. In many jurisdictions style alone is not protected the way a particular character is, but this is a legal gray area and it is evolving.
A practical rule set for creators:
- Describe an original scene with original characters in the style. Do not name a studio character or a film.
- Do not use the studio's name or logo in a way that suggests affiliation, especially on a channel, product or merch.
- Do not claim your images are made by the studio or its artists.
- If you sell products or run ads, check the platform's policy on AI-generated and style-imitating content before you publish.
- Only convert photos of people who are fine with it, and never present a stylized image as a real photo of someone.
- Credit the work honestly. "Ghibli-inspired" is a more accurate description than "Ghibli".
For a similar approach with a different studio look, our Pixar-style prompt guide follows the same original-character rule.
How to Customize These Prompts
Every prompt above follows the same recipe, so you can swap pieces freely.
- Subject and action. Replace the person or pet with your own and keep one clear action, such as sketching, pouring tea or waiting.
- Setting. Change the location, but keep a sky and three to five specific props.
- Light and hour. Swap "late afternoon" for "early morning" or "overcast after rain" to shift the whole palette.
- Season. Replace green meadow with golden rice fields for autumn, or add snow for winter.
- Format. Ask for 16:9 for banners and thumbnails, 9:16 for Shorts and wallpapers, and 1:1 for avatars.
- Mood words. Calm, nostalgic, cozy and quiet steer the model toward the style. Epic, dramatic and dynamic steer it away.
To keep a series consistent, copy the stylistic tail of the prompt (watercolor-style background, soft cel shading with thin warm outlines, no glossy highlights) and paste it onto every new prompt. That one habit does more for consistency than any single keyword.
Common Mistakes When Making Ghibli-Style AI Art
- Only typing the studio name. The model gives a generic anime result. Describe the painting techniques instead.
- Skipping the sky. Without a cloud instruction you get a flat gradient and the whole image loses its character.
- Asking for glossy or cinematic lighting. Words like "ray traced", "8k" and "volumetric" push toward 3D renders. Use warm natural light.
- Leaving rooms empty. Add props. Clutter is the style.
- Using huge eyes in photo conversions. It destroys likeness. Ask for small simple eyes.
- Overstuffing the prompt with every idea. Pick one subject, one action and one mood.
- Putting readable text in the scene. Signs and posters often come out garbled. Add titles afterward in an editor or the thumbnail tool.
- Mixing styles. Adding "photorealistic", "Pixar" and "watercolor" in the same prompt confuses the output. Pick one look per image.
- Forgetting the exclusions. A closing clause such as "no glossy skin, no neon, no text, no logos" prevents most of the common failures.
- Naming real characters. It risks policy problems and removes your creative ownership.
Make Ghibli-Style Images, Thumbnails and Shorts in Miraflow
The whole workflow fits in one place. Start in Miraflow's AI Image Generator: paste a prompt for text-to-image, or upload a photo for image-to-image and add the face-keeping line from the section above. Use inpainting to fix one detail without regenerating the whole scene. Then take the best result to the YouTube Thumbnail Maker to add a face or title, to Text2Shorts to build a vertical video, and to the music generator for a soft soundtrack. If you have long videos too, AI Clipping turns them into captioned shorts. You can start from the Miraflow home page and move between tools in one browser tab.
For other styles in the same workflow, try our ChatGPT 80s photo prompts, miniature diorama prompts or profile picture prompts.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best prompt for Ghibli-style AI images?
The best prompts describe the look, not only the name: hand-painted watercolor background, soft cel shading with thin warm outlines, tall cumulus clouds, warm natural light and a few lived-in props. The 25 prompts above all follow that structure.
How do I turn my photo into a Ghibli-style image?
Upload the photo to an image-to-image tool, ask for a hand-painted Ghibli-inspired anime version, and list three or four features to keep, such as hair, glasses and freckles. Describe the new background and ask for natural proportions.
Why does my result look like generic anime or 3D?
Usually the prompt has no background or lighting instructions, or it contains words like 8k, ray traced or glossy. Add watercolor-style backgrounds, matte cel shading and warm natural light, and remove the 3D words.
How do I keep my face recognizable?
Use a sharp source photo, name the distinctive features, ask for natural proportions and small simple eyes, keep the original pose and generate several versions to pick the closest one.
Can I use Ghibli-style images on YouTube or social media?
Generally yes as original images in a similar style, but do not use the studio's name, logos or characters in a way that implies affiliation, and follow each platform's AI content disclosure rules. This is not legal advice.
Is it legal to make Ghibli-style AI art?
Copyright law protects specific works and characters more clearly than a general visual style, but laws differ by country and the area is still developing. Avoid copying characters or film frames, and check the rules for your platform and use case.
What aspect ratio should I use?
Use 16:9 for banners, thumbnails and intro backgrounds, 9:16 for Shorts, Reels and phone wallpapers, 1:1 for profile pictures and 4:3 for general illustrations and prints.
Can I animate a Ghibli-style image?
Yes. Describe one or two gentle motions such as drifting clouds, moving grass or fluttering clothing in a video prompt, or build a full vertical story with Miraflow Text2Shorts using the same style wording in each scene.
Why do my backgrounds look flat?
Ask explicitly for visible brush texture, paper grain, layered washes and a cumulus sky, and add more specific objects. Flat backgrounds usually come from prompts that name only the subject.
Can I make a Ghibli-style YouTube banner?
Yes. Use a 16:9 wide prompt, leave a calm empty area for the channel name, and add the text afterward in an editor. Prompt 22 is a ready-made example.
Conclusion
The Ghibli-inspired look comes from a short list of real choices: painted backgrounds with soft edges, simple cel-shaded characters, big cumulus skies, warm natural light and everyday clutter. Put those pieces into a prompt, keep the scene original and calm, and even a basic photo turns into something that looks hand-painted.
Pick one prompt from each section, swap in your own subject and generate a few versions in Miraflow's AI Image Generator. When one works, reuse its style wording across your banner, thumbnails and Shorts so the whole channel looks like it came from the same painter.
